Nili has jumped full force into preparing for the Craft Boutique along with many of you. Steve, Gabe and I are back to the daily routine of our lives (Cleaning up after Steve and Gabes big buck kill!).

South Carolina was beautiful (pic) and we were able to visit the son, of some dear friends. Jonathan (pic) is stationed very close to where we were staying. We had a great visit.

Steve and Gabe went with some friends hunting while we were gone. The hunt went well for all, well, except the deer :( !

Two years ago today was the first of my surgeries how appropriate we are able to end this blog today.

Our lives have been strenghted by each of your prayers, acts of kindness, time, cards, finances and various demonstrations of love, support and encouragement. We have always said that we never walked or carried this burden alone, you have been right there with us.

My insurance approved procedure was successfully completed on Oct 29th. In addition there was one pending revision that insurance had not approved. What is so great is that the Dr. offered to "take care of it" and finished the last revision. Someone had allowed us to use some of their stand-by flight passes, so we were able to change our flight to accomadate this last minute "revision". So - I am - as it stands - today DONE!!!!!!!!!

We thank you G-d for ALL that you have done and look forward to what you have for our future. We would not have choosen to walk this path but trust you through it. We ask that this extension of life will be used for your glory. We Love you L-rd and are so grateful this is behind us. We ask that you give back to those who have given to us - in a way in which we are not capable of.

AMEN !!!!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_1Q_iTKCtQmc/SQOa8dK9WAI/AAAAAAAAACk/r2CHNQY5Tdo/s320/fall2008blog.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5261219153112291330" />
Hello to Everyone!! I wanted to let you all know that I am getting ready to travel back to Charleston for, hopefully, what will be the last of my trips back there. (Unless of course we go to play and have fun) Tomorrow morning I will travel with my friend Nili to finish up what was started with Dr. Allen a little over 1 1/2 years ago. My appointment is for Wednessday at 9:30am and if all goes well it should only take a few hours. Nili and I will come back home on Thursday. Looking forward to the day when these blog updates are a thing of the past. Several arteries had not been tied off. So they tied those off, but this a.m. Jamie was still swelling, she went back in and she had surgery at 6a.m. her time. This time she had more than a local anesthesia (sp?), and what they found was a large blood clot! Thankfully, they found it and removed it! They think that is what was causing the bleeding.

She does have a drain now (didn't before) and this is an area for prayer. Pray that: 1. there would be no infection or more blood clotting from the drain, and 2. that they would be able to fly home on Thursday as planned (otherwise, will incur more housing costs, etc.) She goes in tomorrow for a post-op appointment with the Dr. and will be told then if she can go home on Thursday. Doctor is hopeful that she'll be able to go.

Needless to say, this was a bit traumatizing and raised everyone's stress levels. Please keep them covered in prayer! We are in agreement with those conversations and requests of G-d.

We serve a good G-d, and are grateful for each of you in our lives.

Good night.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://bp2.blogger.com/_1Q_iTKCtQmc/RwmNs1PwmPI/AAAAAAAAABk/ltAZOSlQ0AY/s320/IMG0206_059.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5118778252830218482" />
Well everyone - meet Pilot Gavriel Wygant!! - Just jokin... She should go to her room about 9p.m. tonight. Steve will be there all day. Kathy Roman & Jamie's parents are there with them in South Carolina until Friday. Jamie's sister, Robbie, then comes in on Friday for the next week. She will be in the hospital until the end of the week.

They met with the Dr. yesterday for the pre-op. Pleased with how nice he is, but he gave them many details that they were not expecting... things like the fact that Jamie will still have a drain in her abdomen for the flight home, the fact that the catheter(sp?) will be in longer after this surgery than the last. Dr. said that "the first day after surgery is not pretty" but he wouldn't give her any more details. Each day thereafter, there will be improvements.

He also said she won't be able to do any stairs, nor stand up straight for 3 weeks. She will be hunched over and it will be hard to live life without constant help. Some of this Jamie knew, other parts of it were quite a shock to her.

The blood clotting/thinning is going well.

Pray:
1. For surgery to go well. No complications. Peace for Steve & Gavi.
2. No complications after surgery with anything - especially port and catheter(sp?), and clotting
3. Pray God will sustain her and that her body will be able to handle all of this. That His peace would cover her.
4. That Jamie would awaken from surgery with a renewed joy for life that only He can give.

Thank you for covering them in prayer during this time. Check this blog often for udpates. (J & S are trying to conserve their cell phone minutes.) SOOOO - Off we go to Charleston, South Carolina on May 12 through May 24 at Roper Hospital. Jamie's surgery will be on the 15th. She will recoup in the hospital for approx 5 days and then stay for follow-up check-up, an additional 5 days. Her estimated recoup time is 4-6 weeks.

Some of the finer details and logistics for our time there, are being worked out as quickly as possible.

While we are there - we hope to keep you informed of how things are going - on this blog site.

Prayer requests:

G-ds peace and strength and encouragement as we go through this surgery.
Dr. Allen and his medical team and staff to be wise.
That the anesthetic would work really good and have minor or no side affects.
Jamies' blood would do well with the surgery and recovery.
Recovery would be beyond what our natural minds can understand.
The specific details of this whole trip/surgery would come from G-d.
The responsibilities of things we have now-in our daily life would not become overshadowed by this or neglected.
That the return trip home will go well.

We are looking forward to the day when our prayers will take on a change of focus. Some challenges were easier to face than others. Through each challenge – we were NEVER alone. We serve a G-d that is ALWAYS faithful.

I’m (Jamie) not sure that words will adequately capture what we want to convey, but here goes. We want each of you to understand that we have not walked this journey alone. The physical part, yes, but emotionally and spiritually, this has not been, just our fight.

We remember at the prayer meeting in the chapel, something that our friend David had declared to the enemy. “IF – YOU TAKE ON ONE OF US (meaning Jamie), YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE ON ALL OF US!!!!!” (Para-phrased) But the reality of this declaration has lived in truth the last months. We believe the burden of this journey has been as weighty on you as it has been on us. In honesty, we wonder sometimes if it’s been harder on some of you than it has been for us. We believe G-d has allowed many of you to carry some of the emotional and spiritual burdens for us. With our words we say “THANK YOU!!” In our prayers we ask that the Lord to reveal to each of you - what warriors you have been on behalf of us.

As an update - Jamie is now done with the “Have To” surgeries. She has started the treatment and will continue with that over the next 5 years. Aside from continued visits to Dr. Frank we are praying that only one area remains to be completed. That area is the restorative physical part. We are in the process of seeking which procedure G-d has for Jamie. Once we have some clarity on that we will email/blog you with that information. Once we have approval we will be figuring out the timing for that to be accomplished.

Until then, we hope that soon we may have an opportunity to take Gabe away for a “fun” break. We hope to go somewhere warm (? Florida). We’re hoping to just break away for a time of refreshing.

We are blessed to have each of you in our lives!!!

Love Steve – Jamie - Gabe

We want to give each of you an update on how the Hysterectomy and Oophorectomy went. It was very-very do-able :)

We had such a wonderful surgical team and great Doctor. Aside from nausea right after surgery, I've been fine.

We had several prescriptions written and Doctors available for me after surgery - just in case any of the "this is what typically will happens after a Hysterectomy and Oophorectomy" really happened.

But one month and one day after my surgery - we are THRILLED to report. Very little has happened! G-d truly has let this become a blessing in my life. Aside from the obvious "no more girly visits", I'm less moody (well - Steve may say something different!), I've had no depression, my anxiety is very minimal and gets better daily, and the hot flashes - haven't been so hot, practically non-existent!

I've been grateful to the Lord for all he has done and totally trust Him for what the future holds!

Love Jamie

Great news - Jamie had a good night last night in the hospital and it looks like she should be discharged this morning! PTL! Kristi Rolin just spoke with Steve and all went well! Jamie is in a recovery room now. The nurses kept commenting about what a great group of surgeons Jamie had... the doctors were so thorough that she ended up going into surgery late because the dr.'s kept asking so many questions, covering all the details they could on her history, etc. What a blessing!

Please continue to pray for the following:
1. No clotting problems!
2. That as her body begins to recognize what is gone from her body (uterus, ovaries) that is would react well and easily to these changes.
3. Pray that God would guard over people's words that they speak over and around Jamie. That God would filter out and protect her from traumatizing statements/stories. I got a call today from the Doctor and I have an "oferctomy" (sp? - which means having my ovaries removed) and a hysterectomy scheduled for Dec. 27th at 7:30a.m. at the Rose Medical Hospital/Center. The next day I will be able to begin my hormone therapy.

This is huge! It means that it meets the requirements of my doctor to have this surgery before the end of the month. That means that I don't have to have the shot that would shut down my ovaries and that would stay in my system for 3 months. If I hadn't been able to have the surgery by Dec. 31st, I'd have had to get that shot.

Please begin praying now for the surgeons, anethesiologist, and that my body would handle this surgery well with no clotting problems.

Thanks so much for your support and prayers! Steve & Marlene Van Kooten (she has her masters in nursing!) went with me. First, I'll give you my prayer requests and then I'll fill in the details...

PRAYER REQUESTS:
1. We need God's timing and direction for the surgery I need this month: ovaries & uterus removal. Steve graduates on Dec. 17th. How to coordinate surgery date with that. Also, asking the Lord for no post surgery anxiety, nausea, etc. that I had after the mastectomy.
2. Which surgeon/anesthesiologist to do the surgery. (We think that God has confirmed which surgeon but He still has to coordinate it all!)
3. What is God's will for the reconstructive surgery? What does He want us to do?
4. Strength to continue Home Schooling Gabe.
5. Asking God that my body does not react "historically/traditionally" to my body being put into immediate menopause.

Okay, now for the details:

Because I had blood clots in the hospital and after my surgery, the doctors tested me to see if I have a blood clotting disorder. PTL that he allowed the clots to happen when they did or the doctors would have never tested me for the disorder! I do have the blood clotting disorder and have had it since birth. We just didn't know I had it. This discovery really effects the choices we make from here on out.

Next surgery: I have to have my ovaries removed and my uterus removed because my tumor was estrogen based. The doctor wants me to have this surgery within the month. The doctors want to remove every ounce of estrogen from my body. They will do this via the surgery and an oral chemotherapy pill that I will take for 5 years. There is the traditional chemo route that involves a drip, port, etc. That has a very high risk of clotting. Therefore, it is not an option. There are two oral pill routes for chemotherapy. One is Tamoxicin (sp?) which is most common but has a higher risk for causing blood clots. The other oral pill that I will take has a lower risk of causing blood clots. (But still poses a risk medically, nonetheless.)

The tests results from California came back as saying that my tumor was 2cm. Usually with a tumor this size, they recommend chemotherapy. But there's a new test that they ran (even though it is new, the New England Journal of Medicine (?) said it is an excellent test!) and it tells you whether your chances for cancer reoccurrence are low, medium or high. My results came back as low chance for reoccurrence at 6%. Most cancer doctors hope to get people to a 5% chance of reoccurrence so I'm already doing well!

My doctor said that to have traditional chemo would only gain me 1% in terms of my chance of reoccurrence rates and that that small of a percentage is not worth the risk that traditional chemo would present for me (with the blood clotting disorder).

Shew, that's a lot of information. Hope it makes sense.

Thank you so much for covering us in your prayers! Our lives are in HIS hands and we are so grateful.
Love,
Jamie - Steve-Gabe

Nov. 18, 2006 - Oncologist Update...

Hi Everyone,

We met with the oncologist on Wednesday for three hours and found out that there are 3 roads of treatment for me but we still need some test results from California to chose which one is best. We need to meet with one more Dr. and then the surgery should happen towards the end of the month.

We are trusting G-d to define details in all this and give us great medical help throughout it all!

Thanks for your outpouring of love and support.

Jamie - Steve - Gabe

I just found out I have breast cancer...

My name is Jamie Wygant, and I was just diagnosed with breast cancer.
The purpose of this blog is three-fold:
-Raise awareness for breast cancer.
-Serve as a reminder to pray for me and my family.
-To glorify the name of the one true God.
This news can be both surprising and devastating, and can leave one feeling very alone. A prayer meeting tonight (where dozens of my friends and family prayed for me) showed that I am by no means alone. Please return to this site often for updates and prayer requests directly from me.
